What SAT Math practice covers

SAT Math is scored from 200–800 and spans four domains. Calculator use is allowed on the entire section. Practicing across all four — and noticing which topics quietly cost you points — is how a stuck score becomes a higher scaled one.

Algebra (~35%)

  • Linear equations in one variable — Solve for a single unknown in equations of the form ax + b = c, including ones that require distributing and combining like terms.
  • Linear equations in two variables — Work with equations in the form y = mx + b, interpret slope and intercept, and translate between verbal descriptions and algebra.
  • Linear functions — Analyze f(x) = mx + b in function notation, evaluate inputs and outputs, and interpret rate of change in context.
  • Systems of linear equations — Solve two-equation systems with substitution, elimination, or graphing, and recognize when a system has zero, one, or infinitely many solutions.
  • Linear inequalities — Solve and graph inequalities in one or two variables and identify feasible regions from real-world constraints.

Advanced Math (~35%)

  • Equivalent expressions — Factor, expand, simplify, and combine polynomial and rational expressions until you can recognize when two forms are algebraically the same.
  • Nonlinear functions — Work with quadratic, exponential, and other nonlinear functions, including vertex form, growth and decay, and nonlinear systems.

Problem-Solving and Data Analysis (~15%)

  • Ratios, rates, and proportions — Set up and solve proportions, convert units, and apply rates to distance, work, and mixture problems.
  • Percentages — Compute percent increase and decrease, reverse percent problems, and interpret percentage change in real-world scenarios.
  • Distributions, center, and spread — Compute and interpret mean, median, range, and standard deviation from histograms, dot plots, and box plots.
  • Two-variable data and scatterplots — Interpret scatterplots and lines of best fit, and distinguish linear, quadratic, and exponential models from their graphs.
  • Probability — Calculate probabilities from two-way tables and event descriptions, including conditional probability in context.
  • Data inference and margin of error — Interpret sample-based estimates, confidence intervals, and margin of error, and recognize valid generalizations from sample data.
  • Evaluating statistical claims — Evaluate study designs and decide whether conclusions can be generalized or whether cause-and-effect can be inferred.

Geometry and Trigonometry (~15%)

  • Area and volume — Compute area, perimeter, surface area, and volume for two- and three-dimensional figures, including composite shapes.
  • Lines, angles, and triangles — Apply angle relationships from parallel lines, triangle properties, similarity, congruence, and the Pythagorean theorem.
  • Circles — Work with circle equations and apply arc length, sector area, and central or inscribed angle relationships.
  • Right triangles and trigonometry — Use sine, cosine, and tangent on right triangles, and apply basic radian relationships when they appear.

How to practice effectively

Do today's set under light time pressure — about 90 seconds per question — then spend as long reviewing as you spent solving. Separate content gaps from careless errors; those need different fixes.

Study tip: when the same topic keeps showing up in your misses, drill it in the section guide before returning to mixed practice. Ten focused algebra problems beat fifty random ones you never review.
