GRE Quantitative Reasoning questions are split into four categories:
Compare two quantities (Quantity A and Quantity B) and determine which is greater, whether they're equal, or whether the relationship cannot be determined.
These questions test your ability to reason about mathematical relationships without always needing to compute exact values.
Standard math problems with five answer choices. Select the single best answer.
Topics span arithmetic, algebra, geometry, and data analysis.
Select all correct answers from a set of choices. You must select every correct answer and no incorrect answers to receive credit.
Enter your answer as an integer, decimal, or fraction. No answer choices are provided — you must compute the answer yourself.
Many Quantitative Comparison questions can be solved faster through estimation rather than precise calculation. Practice recognizing when exact computation isn't necessary.
The GRE doesn't provide a formula sheet. Memorize key formulas for area, perimeter, volume, probability, statistics, and common algebraic identities.
The GRE provides a basic on-screen calculator. Use it for arithmetic but don't rely on it — many problems are faster to solve mentally or with estimation.
Data interpretation questions present tables, graphs, or charts. Practice reading data quickly and accurately, and watch out for units and scales.
The Quantitative Reasoning section is scored on a scale of 130-170 in 1-point increments. Like Verbal, the section is adaptive at the section level — your performance on the first Quant section determines the difficulty of the second.
