Curious what IQ your ACT score suggests? There's no official conversion — but since the ACT and IQ tests both rank you against everyone else, you can line up the two scales by percentile. Enter your ACT composite below for an estimated IQ and see the full ACT-to-IQ chart. Note: take this with a grain of salt — the ACT measures learned academic skills, not raw intelligence. It correlates with IQ but isn't the same thing, so treat the result as a fun approximation, not a real IQ score.

High-average range
Higher than about 77% of test-takers, mapped onto the IQ scale (mean 100, standard deviation 15).
Both the ACT and IQ tests are norm-referenced: your score tells you where you rank relative to everyone else. That shared logic is the bridge. The estimate takes three steps: find the percentile your ACT composite lands at among test-takers, find the IQ that sits at that same percentile (IQ is built so that 100 is the median and each 15 points is one standard deviation), and report it.
The method in one line: your ACT percentile → the IQ at the same percentile (mean 100, SD 15). A composite near the ACT average (~20) maps to an IQ near 100; a 34+ maps to roughly 135+.
This is why percentile is the number that matters. Once you know your percentile, you know your position on any norm-referenced scale — ACT, SAT, or IQ. The ACT percentiles page gives the precise figure this estimate is built on.

Why It's Only an Estimate
This converter is for fun, and it's worth understanding exactly why the number isn't a real IQ:
The ACT is not an IQ test. It measures learned English, math, reading, and science-reasoning skills that respond to schooling and preparation — not raw cognitive ability.
The correlation isn't perfect. Studies put the ACT–IQ correlation around 0.7–0.8. Strong, but far from the 1.0 a true conversion would require.
Test-takers aren't a random sample. ACT takers skew above the general population, so a percentile among them differs from a percentile among everyone — which can make this estimate read low.
Preparation moves the ACT, not IQ. A student can raise an ACT composite several points with practice. That's a feature of the ACT, and the clearest sign the two measure different things.
The upside of that last point: unlike IQ, your ACT is a score you can actually change. See what counts as a good ACT score and set a target you can train toward.
Frequently Asked Questions
There's no official conversion. This tool finds the percentile your ACT composite ranks at, then reads off the IQ at the same percentile on the standard scale (mean 100, SD 15). A composite near the ACT average maps to an IQ around 100; a 34+ maps to roughly 135+. It's an estimate for curiosity, not a measured IQ.
No. The ACT measures learned skills in English, math, reading, and science reasoning, not raw cognitive ability. ACT scores correlate with IQ (around 0.7–0.8), which is why an estimate is possible, but the two measure different things and the ACT responds strongly to schooling and preparation.
A composite of 30 sits near the 97th percentile of ACT takers, which maps to an estimated IQ of roughly 127. Remember this is an approximation based on percentile, not a measured IQ, and ACT takers skew above the general population.
ACT takers are college-bound students who skew above average, so their percentiles differ from those of the general population, which can make the estimate read low. The ACT also correlates with IQ only around 0.7–0.8, and preparation can raise a score without changing intelligence. Treat the number as a fun approximation.
