What ISEE Verbal Reasoning Practice Covers

Unlike the SSAT, the ISEE Verbal section uses synonyms and sentence completion — there are no analogies. Synonym questions ask for the word closest in meaning to a headword; sentence-completion questions ask you to fill a blank with the word that best fits the sentence’s logic. The section runs 20 minutes (34–40 questions depending on level). This free ISEE Verbal Reasoning practice mixes both types so you can build vocabulary depth and careful sentence reading under real constraints.

No penalty for guessing: the ISEE never deducts for wrong answers, so answer every question — eliminate what you can and make your best choice.

How to Practice ISEE Verbal Reasoning

For synonyms, predict a meaning before reading the choices, then pick the closest match. For sentence completion, read the entire sentence and look for signal words (“although,” “because,” “however”) that tell you whether the blank should be positive or negative — then fill the blank in your own words before checking the options. Keep a daily list of missed words and review it briefly each day.

Use short daily ISEE Verbal Reasoning practice sessions rather than long cram blocks. When an explanation introduces a root or signal pattern you missed, add it to your list so tomorrow’s set builds on today’s misses.

Lower, Middle & Upper Verbal

Match the level selector to your grade: Lower (grades 4–5), Middle (grades 6–7), or Upper (grades 8–11). Question count and vocabulary difficulty rise with level, but the synonym + sentence-completion format stays the same. Switching levels refreshes today’s free ISEE Verbal Reasoning practice questions for that band.

Pair Verbal with ISEE Reading practice for passage skills, or mix all four sections with the ISEE Questions of the Day.
